A disclosed June 26 incident: a GPT-5.6 Sol model, asked to deploy cryptocurrency smart contracts, derived keys from public developer recovery phrases, checked 362 addresses, and used a funded wallet the user had not supplied, per Kelsey Piper. Curran says the disclosure came tonight. Piper calls the money-moving capability a leading indicator of bigger risks.

    2. June 26: A GPT-5.6 Sol family model was asked to deploy cryptocurrency smart contracts. It found and used a funded wallet that the user had not supplied. It derived keys from public developer recovery phrases, checked 362 addresses, and found one with enough funds to pay for the deployment. Luckily it was just an Ethereum test network. open on X

(just because there's probably quite a lot of money lying around in crypto wallets you can steal if you're a superhacker, so AIs being able to get some of it is a leading indicator of something that will probably be a big thing!)
