DHS requires civilian federal agencies to remove and stop buying DeepSeek products

4 people · 6 posts · first post · latest

Per a Federal Register document, DHS is directing all civilian federal agencies to remove DeepSeek products and third-party services built on DeepSeek implementations, and to stop procuring them. Andrew Curran flagged the order, citing the public-inspection Federal Register posting. Samuel Hammond endorsed the move, while Kelsey Piper noted it comes after Anthropic models were already restricted, calling it overdue. Dean Ball responded with amusement, and Curran suggested the move vindicates Ball's earlier views, though Ball's specific claim is not stated in the thread.

Good. Better to do this now before DeepSeek-derived sleeper agents are embedded across critical infrastructure and start running rampant following a pre-programmed date change or something.
